How Likely Is It For Thyroid Problems To Cause Headache?

Headaches can be extremely frustrating and painful at the same time. If you are someone who often suffers from severe headaches and have a history of migraine, you should probably get your thyroid level checked up. Medical researches and studies say that thyroid problems cause headaches and both of these health problems can be linked to one another. If you are getting bad headaches all the time, you are probably suffering from hypothyroidism. This is such a medical problem that causes mood swings, fatigue, weight gain, and many other symptoms.

How can you link hypothyroidism with headaches?

Researches have given out evidence that there is a very distinct link between headaches and thyroid. Statistics say that almost 21% of people who suffer from severe headache problems and even have a history are more likely to get hypothyroidism. Any people diagnosed with cluster headaches, migraines, and tension headaches fall in the 21% statistics group.

There are plenty of reasons why this disorder of headache is considered to be one of the risk factors for thyroid. The very first possibility can be how these recurrent headaches can trigger an overactive immune system. This, in turn, ends up making your body extremely vulnerable to hypothyroidism. Inflammation is also another common factor linked with both of these health conditions. This is how likely thyroid problems cause headaches.

Cure headaches by treating thyroid problems

Both genetic and environmental factors can play a significant role in being the cause of such linking. However, it is not known for sure if these are the only reasons why severe headaches can cause thyroid problems. It has also been observed that a thyroid disorder and the low hormone levels in the thyroid tend to make headaches even more frequent and worse.

If you are diagnosed with hypothyroidism, then there are treatments to take care of it. With that, your headache conditions would also improve. So, the physicians normally suggest people with acute headache problems be vigilant enough and do regular screenings. Headaches, thus, are the most common symptoms of thyroid problems.

Who suffers more from Hypothyroidism?

By now, we know that thyroid problems cause headaches and these two problems are seriously linked to one another. It is mostly women who suffer from severe headaches that later lead to thyroid problems. Men are not likely to get these problems. They also experience more migraines and other serious headaches. This might happen due to the more hormonal fluctuations that women go through.
